Zomig Generic Name: Zolmitriptan Tablets Brand Name: ZomigZomig is used for:Treating acute migraine headaches with or without aura (flashing lights, wavy lines, dark spots) in adults. It is not intended to prevent migraines. Zomig belongs to a group of medicines called "triptans." It works by narrowing the widened blood vessels thought to cause migraine headaches. Do NOT use Zomig if:- you are allergic to any ingredient in Zomig
- you have allergies to medicines or other substances
- you have used an ergot alkaloid (eg, ergotamine) or other "triptan" migraine medicine in the last 24 hours
- you are taking sibutramine
- you have a history of heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or are taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor (eg, phenelzine) within the past 14 days
- you have migraines caused by basal arteries or hemiplegia
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you. Before using Zomig :Some medical conditions may interact with Zomig . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you: - if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
- if you have heart disease (or a family history of heart disease), peripheral blood vessel disease, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure or diabetes
- if you have cluster headaches
- if you have factors that could lead to heart attacks (eg, overweight, smoking) or you are a postmenopausal woman
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Zomig . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following: - Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (eg, fluoxetine) because they may decrease Zomig 's effectiveness
- Sibutramine because the risk of side effects, such as serotonin syndrome (ie, restlessness, fever, excessive sweating, confusion, twitching, and seizures which can rarely be life-threatening), may be increased
- Other serotonin agonists (eg, sumatriptan) because they may increase the risk of Zomig 's side effects
- Ergot alkaloids (eg, ergotamine) or MAO inhibitors (eg, phenelzine) because risk of their side effects may be increased by Zomig s
