Uroxatral is used for:Treating symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Uroxatral is an alpha-blocker. It works by blocking receptors in the lower urinary tract, causing smooth muscles in the bladder neck and prostate to relax. This relaxation improves urine flow and reduces the symptoms of BPH. Do NOT use Uroxatral if:- you are allergic to any ingredient in Uroxatral
- you have moderate to severe liver disease
- you are taking an alpha-blocker (eg, prazosin), an azole antifungal (eg, ketoconazole), or an HIV protease inhibitor (eg, ritonavir)
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you. Before using Uroxatral :Some medical conditions may interact with Uroxatral . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you: - if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
- if you have low blood pressure, chest pain, heart problems (eg, irregular heartbeat), liver problems, kidney problems, other prostate gland problems, or cancer
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Uroxatral . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following: - Alpha-blockers (eg, prazosin), azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole), beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), HIV protease inhibitors (eg, ritonavir), or phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (eg, sildenafil) because the risk of side effects, such as severe low blood pressure, may be increased
