Amitriptyline/Perphenazine is used for:Treating anxiety and depression. Amitriptyline/Perphenazine is a phenothiazine and tricyclic antidepressant combination. It works by altering the levels of naturally occurring chemicals in the brain. Do NOT use Amitriptyline/Perphenazine if:- you are allergic to any ingredient in Amitriptyline/Perphenazine
- you have certain types of brain damage
- you have blood disorders, liver damage, decreased bone marrow function, or a recent heart attack
- you are taking astemizole, cisapride, terfenadine, or tramadol
- you have taken furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine) within the last 14 days
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you. Before using Amitriptyline/Perphenazine :Some medical conditions may interact with Amitriptyline/Perphenazine . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you: - if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
- if you have a history of breast cancer, seizures, asthma, lung problems (eg, emphysema), trouble urinating, alcohol abuse, depression, or suicidal thoughts or attempts
- if you have a lung infection, heart or blood disease, Reye syndrome, Parkinson disease, glaucoma, high or low blood pressure, prostate problems, or an overactive thyroid
- if you are undergoing electroshock therapy (ECT)
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Amitriptyline/Perphenazine . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following: - Anticholinergics (eg, benztropine), antihistamines (eg, diphenhydramine), barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), carbamazepine, cimetidine, disulfiram, fluconazole, mibefradil, opiates (eg, codeine), phenothiazines, quinidine, terbinafine, or valproic acid because they may increase the risk of Amitriptyline/Perphenazine 's side effects
- Arsenic, astemizole, butyrophenones, cisapride, droperidol, furazolidone, haloperidol, macrolide antibiotics (eg, erythromycin), MAOIs (eg, phenelzine), pimozide, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (eg, fluoxetine), serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (eg, venlafaxine), streptogramins, terfenadine, or tramadol because the risk of severe heart, nervous system, or muscle problems or seizures may be increased
- Benzodiazepines because they may decrease Amitriptyline/Perphenazine 's effectiveness
- Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), hydantoins, or sympathomimetics (eg, pseudoephedrine) because the risk of their side effects may be increased by Amitriptyline/Perphenazine
- Clonidine, guanethidine, guanfacine, levodopa, or pergolide because the
ir effectiveness may be decreased by Amitriptyline/Perphenazine
